Red Carpet Review: 2014 Oscars

Celebrities usually step it up for the Oscars and this year was no exception. I was excited to see a long list of beauties on my "best dressed" list. I was also in love with the fact that after 7 years, the Oscars finally asked Ellen to host again (she always livens up these types of events...or really any event for that matter). I hope you all enjoy this red carpet review:

BoiseBombshell Best Dressed:

Lupita has become a red carpet favorite of mine. She has blown me away on red carpet this award's season.
Lupita Nyong'o

Quite the dapper couple:
Dax Shepard & Kristen Bell

I'm a sucker for this Hollywood glam style. The low v, the billowing sleeves, the silk, the brooch....to die for!!!
Karen O (I loved her red gown she wore during her performance of "The Moon Song")

Amazing color. Just the right amount of sparkle.
Jenna Dewan Tatum

Incredible. Classic, sophisticated, elegant. I was hoping she'd pull off something amazing this time around (her other red carpet looks this year have been sub-par). Happy to see she nailed this night's look!!!
Sandra Bullock

Timeless & Breathtaking:
Meryl Streep

I don't know why I love this look, but I do (still minus the purple hair):
Kelly Osbourne

Aside from McConaughey's over-gelled hair, this is one beautiful couple. I love the neutrals and blush tones on their perfect olive complexions (I'm so jealous).
Matthew McConaughey & Camilla Alves

BoiseBombshell Maybes:

This gown was a lot prettier minus the shawl/cape situation. It would have been stunning had it been in a bolder color (white washes her out).
Kate Hudson

Beautiful color gown. Check out her insanely buff arms! I am not liking the double cuff though (too choppy), wish she would have done a bold chandelier earring instead. I think the clutch is wrong for this gown. The crimped hair is cute. The dress would have looked better, if it was all fitted, no a-line flare.
Viola Davis

I want to love this Jason Wu gown, but it looks like she wrapped a satin sheet around herself and clamped it with a silver barrette. The draping on the top is beautiful though and the color is stunning. Her hair and makeup are perfect. Again with the double-cuff. Why?
Kerry Washington

I love this gown and color, but the silhouette is terrible on her petite frame. This dress swallows her up.
Giuliana Rancic

The fit is amazing on her, but the metallic detailing looks cheap. This "racer front" cut is a big trend this spring!
Anne Hathaway

Don't get me wrong, I love this dress. The color is amazing. Her hair, perfect. But I feel like we've seen this look on her a million times.  Plus, peplums are out.
Jennifer Lawrence

Oh the infamous Pitt-Jolie duo. This is their first red carpet appearance this award's season. Brad's hair is looking a little odd these days (shaved sides, slicked back top? never been a fan of this look...then again it is Brad Pitt so who cares what his hair is doing). I love the color of Angelina's dress, but the baggy top and long sleeve age the look. Kind of vintage...kind of grandma.
Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie (like they need an introduction)

This is a beautiful color on her, but she's already worn the blue color on this year's red carpet. It would have been nice to see her in something different for the Oscars. The earrings are pink and all wrong for this dress. A simple single drop earring  (perhaps yellow diamonds) would have been better.
Amy Adams

Her looks have been all over the board this award's season (which kind of breaks my heart, as she is my all time favorite actress). I like this dress, but again bombshells peplums are a thing of the past. The gown would have been perfect without the peplum detail and an added cap sleeve.
Julia Roberts

BoiseBombshell Worst Dressed:

What a mess:
Anna Kendrick

So NOT "happy" about this:
Pharrell Williams (left) - Shorts? Seriously?!?

This dress is all wrong for her body type. The fabric is too heavy, very unflattering on her frame.
Glenn Close

Kind of reminds me of a jelly fish...I don't know why.
Ireland Baldwin

Some celebrities have yet to learn how to dress appropriately. This looks like silk pajamas on the red carpet? Terrible:
Liza Minnelli

Side boob is always uncalled for, but this is just terrible:
Elsa Pataky

Yikes:
Veerle Baetens

It reminds me of one of those old school lamp shades with the fringe. Silver is not her color. Love the hair and makeup though and the fact she kept all her bangles on one arm.
Jennifer Garner

Hope you enjoyed the Osar's tonight bombshells!!!

***I couldn't find pictures of John Stamos or Sally Field, but they both looked AMAZING***

  1. I haven't been able to check on the blogs I'm following, but I did watch the Oscars... I agree with most of your comments above, especially Veerle Baetens.
Being from Belgium, we were so proud to have someone at the Oscars, but that dress... horrible! After all, we do have some great fashion designers in our small country :-)
And Elsa Pataky's dress... well... being pregnant is no excuse to wear that. There are so many beautiful gowns for pregnant women.
Personally, I didn't like Lupita Nyong'o's dress... the color: yes. But the top part, I don't know, it didn't work for me. But as they say in France "les goƻts et les couleurs...", it's all about personal taste.

    1. I definitely agree, being pregnant can be beautiful even in a formal red carpet gown, but poor Elsa did not pull this off. Remember Jenna Dewan Tatum at last year's red carpet? She was pregnant for the event and looked AMAZING!!! I an see what you mean about Lupita's top half of her dress. It may not be the most flattering cut for someone with a smaller bust like she has, but the fabric and the color are incredible! Glad you enjoyed the post :-)
