The kitchen island is the first of many projects for the DuPont house. This project was very inexpensive. The only costs were the stain (less than $9) and the nails. The whole project cost less than $15!!! Can't beat that.
Step 1: Remove wood from pallets (we got FREE pallets from a local warehouse)
Step 2: Sand down pallets
Step 3: Stain wood (we used a gray stain for a more modern look)
Step 4: Let stain dry
Step 5: Cut wood to desired size (we used a variety of lengths to add visual interest) & nail to wall
Step 6: On the corners we varied the length of each piece for an inter-locking look
Step 7: Admire your hard work :-)
We are in love with the new island. Since we built our house, we have been trying to add elements of character and old country charm. It's been almost 2 years and still lots of projects to go. We're excited how this one turned out.
