Red Carpet Recap: 2013 48th ACM Awards

I try to be a progressive blogger. If I've been meaning to blog about (such as my Easter ensemble), but have missed the acceptable time to post pictures, I move on to the next topic...of course like most things I have a caveat. In this case it's award show fashion.

Saturday morning I left for Santa Cruz, California on a trip with my co-workers for a 10 k race. While I recognize I am a very lucky girl (especially since the entire trip was paid by my 2 incredibly generous bosses), I'll admit I was a little bummed to miss the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.

The awards aired on CBS this past Sunday, April 7th. We didn't get back into town until yesterday afternoon and I went straight from the airport to class, then up this morning for an exam and off to work right after that. Although I did manage to sneak in 10 minutes of E!News ACM Awards red carpet breakdown today during my lunch hour, SCORE!

Here's the best and worst of it bombshells:

The BoiseBombshell Hit List:

I can't imagine dressing for pregnancy in general, now imagine having to dress for the red carpet while pregnant...impossible...or so I thought until I was blown away by Hilary Scott of Lady Antebellum. The color and draping was to die for!!! The deep blue with her red hair, breathtaking. My only complaint is she could've gone without the earrings and gaudy jewelry, since her hair was down and there was already intricate bead work on the shoulders of the gown. I would've picked a more muted toned clutch, perhaps peach, to keep from being too dark. The blue eye shadow was just blue enough to pull it all together, without being too matchy-matchy. Simply gorgeous.

Taylor Swift looked elegant in this Naeem Khan gown for her performance with Tim McGraw (see her worst look worn earlier in the night below). Naeem Khan was the same designer of Carrie Underwoods gown (also featured below).

Another BoiseBombshell favorite who rocked the red carpet? Little Big Town. Love the blue pant suit worn by Kimberly Schlapman (much better than Sheryl Crow) and the bright pink accessories and organza flowers donned by Karen Fairchild. Little Big Town won vocal group of the year!

The BoiseBombshell Miss List:

Shania Twain has been trying for years to successfully make it back into the country music scene, but in order to make it you need to be aware of what's going on in the world, especially the fashion world. This red-carpet catastrophe shows not only how out of touch she is with today's fashion, but also out of touch with the season. Winter suede boots and a beach funeral dress with wings...as Shania would say "Don't be stupid."

Jake Owen needs some serious red carpet assistance. The man dresses like a goon for award shows. Remember his leopard print blazer? Oh my. Again, where is his beautiful wife to give him some pointers?

Taylor Swift's look was Greek goddess, meets Aztec warrior, meets Spock, meets didn't-plan-enough-time-for-my-hairdresser. Not any combination I ever want to be a part of. Enough said.

Faith Hill is a country classic. She has an incredible voice, killer body and the girl-next-door vibe we all wish we could recreate. She's timeless, but I would like to have a few words with her stylist about dressing age-appropriate. That's the wrong term because I wouldn't put a 23 year old in this dress, I guess fashion-appropriate is more accurate. The see-through lace is fine, until you add a front slit, unbuttoned top (ps-why are there even buttons in the top, why not a simple v-neck seam) and a sheer mid-section cutout. YIKES! The best think about being Faith Hill is she's so beautiful, you actually forget how terrible the dress is because you're distracted by her stunning features.

It always seems to be a whole lot easier to miss on the red carpet. Other major misses of the night? Sunny Sweeny, Kimberly Perry, Danielle Peck, RaeLynn (who she is I don't know...probably a reality tv star, why she has no last name, also another good question).

The BoiseBombshell Maybes:

It breaks my heart to say this, but I am putting Carrie on the maybe list. Don't get me wrong bombshells, I adore Carrie. I will be the first to gush about her incredible talent, gorgeous blonde locks (that I often envy and dream to imitate , and keen sense of style, but I am drawing the line with the gloves. She wears gloves in EVERY performance. When she came to Boise she had some form of gloves on with every single outfit change. Although gloves are a fun accessory, they grow boring after a while, when you pair them with every ensemble. Plus, why where gloves when you have a rockin' diamond ring to show off? I just don't get it. I'm sorry to do this Carrie, but the gloves have got to go.

Again, I have to give Carrie's main red carpet look a BoiseBombshell maybe. It pains me to do this bloggies, I promise. I just felt the black accents (the clutch, the sash and the black within the dress) were more fall and less spring season. I feel the accents should've been in electric orange, sunshine yellow or powder blue. Actually, I feel the original runway version of the dress is better, sans-sash. More simplistic. I will however give her props for hair, makeup and the overall adorableness she exudes wherever she goes.

Another BoiseBombshell favorite country artist, Miranda Lambert, has landed herself in the maybe list. She seems to always wear the same thing. Super fitted, short, embellished mini, with straps. The girl has killer curves, but you can show you curves off in multiple ways. You don't always have to wear skin tight dresses, try a floor length gown. Go ultra feminine,  embrace colors (other than nude, pink and black). You may surprise yourself, Miranda. I'm sure you'd look hot in any frock, even if it wasn't skin tight.

Later in the show, she wore a similar style (in black of course), but a little longer length and lower top.

Wishing you a beautiful rest of your week bombshells!

Be Bold,
Be Brave,
Be Beautiful,

The BoiseBombshell
