Jason Wu. I'm guessing you've heard of him?
Jason Wu is a young, 28, Taiwanese-Canadian fashion designer, who went to the infamous Parsons School for Design in NYC and became a finalist for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in July 2008. Learn more about the CFDA
here.
Wu was the inspiration for The BoiseBombshell's second post ever (February 5th, 2012), where I blogged about his Target collection. Read it
here.
Wu released his first ready-to-wear collection in 2006 and became a household name after designing first lady, Michelle Obama's inaugural gown in 2008.

First Lady Michelle Obama in Jason Wu - Inauguration January 2009
The gown was complete with Swarovski crystals and organza flowers. Jason Wu gifted the gown in 2010 to the Smithsonian Museum of American History in honor of the first lady, Michelle Obama. Every first lady, since Helen Taft in 1912, has personally delivered their gown to the Smithsonian. Incredible! Read more about this fashion tradition here. |
Wu was the designer of choice again for Michelle Obama, when it came time for this year's inauguration ceremony. Keeping with the patriotic color scheme, Wu chose this stunning crimson fabric. If only president's could be elected 3 terms, then Wu could do a classic navy gown for next term, which I am sure would've been an equally impressive design. Sigh.
Why do I love Jason Wu? He has such a fresh take on how to dress a woman, his designs are original and clean, he's not afraid to use color, yet at the same time he can work with classics (black, white, navy, nude), plus over 85% of his collection is manufactured in the US (specifically in the NYC Garment district). Love that!
I also LOVE Mr. Wu for giving us non-first lady's of the world, the opportunity to wear his designs by releasing collections through major department stores, such as Target (read previous post on Jason Wu Target collection
here) and most recently Nordstrom.
Note: I am not saying I can afford to go out and spend $500 on a silk dress, but it is much more plausible than a $5,000 runway design.
Check out the
Miss Wu Collection by Jason Wu now available at Nordstrom. Miss Wu has a retro 60s feel, infused with modern day trends such as the light leather trend. Some of my favorite Miss Wu items:
Jason Wu is most definitely a BoiseBombshell favorite. I am OBSESSED with both Miss Wu and his runway collections!!! See his current runway collections
here. Some of my favorites from his Spring 2013 runway:
Perfect dress for a formal spring event. Now that I mention it, I do have a wedding to attend coming up in May. This dress would be perfect! I better start saving now :-) I think I would probably add a patent leather red belt, no offense Mr. Wu, but the black belt just doesn't do it for me.
I love what he did here with the black and navy color combination. I would've never put those two colors together on my own. I like that he wasn't afraid to do dark hues for the spring. It seems spring collections are often burden by pastels. He did a fabulous job at a creating a feminine yet modern look. This outfit is fierce!

I hope we see this next dress on the red carpet during this year's award season. It looks like a starry night. It reminds me of the dress Princess Anastasia wears in the animated movie, when she goes to the ballet. Anyone else remember that dress? Leave it to me to obsess over fashion in animated kids films...
One of my all-time favorite Jason Wu Designs? Brace yourself bombshells...this also happens to be one of my favorite fashion images ever taken:
The dress: incredible. The image: breathtaking. It actually brings tears to my eyes, pathetic I know, but it is just so beautiful. Oh my goodness, I think I will be buried in this.
Hope you enjoyed your dose of Jason Wu...I might have given you an overdose, but like I said he is a BoiseBombshell FAVORITE!!!
Be Bold,
Be Brave,
Be Beautiful,
The BoiseBombshell
PS- Remember to tune into TNT or TBS tomorrow, Sunday January 27th, for the Screen Actors Guild Awards. It should be one hot red carpet. See details
