Red Carpet Review: 2016 Golden Globe Awards

I may or may not have entered all the upcoming award shows in my phone, so I receive calendar notifications as they approach. I don't know what it is, but I just *LOVE* award season. You never know what the red carpet might bring. See last year's Golden Globe red carpet review here.

This year's award season kicked off with the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards located at the Beverly Hilton. Hosted by the hilarious Ricky Garvis, the night offered many entertaining moments. It was exciting to see Sylvester Stallone win his first Golden Globe in nearly 40 years and entertaining to watch Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schuemer present. I was bummed The Big Short did not win, but excited to see Revenant win multiple globes. It was a great award show. Oh yah plus Brad Pitt somehow managed to shave 20+ years off his life and look like he was in his 30s. Seriously, see here.

The BoiseBombshell Best Dressed:

My sister texted me during the red carpet preview tonight. She was raving about Helen Mirren's dress. I had not see it yet, but when I did I was breath-taken. I can see why she loved it. The elegant neckline is my favorite part. The necklace is paired so perfectly with this gown. I just can't get enough. Every time I look at it, I fall in love all over again. Classic.
Helen Mirren

I am in love with the unique smokey color of this gown. It's incredible with her red hair. The layers, the detail, the sheer fabric make for the perfect combination.
Sarah Hay

I am in love with this gown. It's like a starry midnight sky. The navy blue color looks amazing on her. The sheer neckline is stunning!!!
Viola Davis

This dress is unique in the best way. I love the Victorian style and high neckline. The feminine dress somehow works with the severe hair style. The lip color is perfect for the nude gown.
Amanda Peet
I love the simple cut and fit of this dress. The necklace adds the perfect amount of sparkle. Usually I do not like red gowns paired with red lipstick, but in this case it works.
Kate Winslet is so beautiful. She always looks classy. The blue color is stunning on her. I love the satin neckline and how it ties in with the satin side panel.
Kate Winslet

This dress has just the right amount of see-through detail without being too scandalous. I love the color and detailing. She did a great job at accessorizing without over doing it. A necklace would have been too busy.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Love the shape and pattern of this dress. Her makeup is flawless. Her up-do keeps the focus on the gown. I love how she skipped a necklace to emphasize the neckline.
Rachel McAdams

I am in love with the color of this gown, so bold. The collar necklace adds the right amount of glam to counteract the casual cutouts and shape of the gown. The red lipstick doesn't work as well with this gown, she would've done better sticking with a nude gloss instead of a bold lip. I have to say I am not a fan of her hair color tonight. It's much too grey.
Jennifer Lawrence

This custom made Versace gown is perfectly fitted to Lady Gaga. The dramatic hourglass shape was made for the red carpet. I love the neckline, the velvet material and the old Hollywood glamour this dress embodies.
Lady Gaga

This dress is very much one of a kind. I feel like I haven't seen anything like it before. I am in love with the feminine details, the fabric, the neckline. It's so delicate. Her hair, makeup and earrings are perfectly paired with this gown.
Amber Heard

The BoiseBombshell Maybes:

Love the cut, slit, shoes, draping and color, but HATE the cape and dark lipstick.
Jennifer Lopez

I love the shape of the gown, but the fabric looks cheap. The red eye shadow is much too intense and the necklace is the wrong shape and style (too chunky).
Olivia Wilde

I am surprised I like this gown, but I do. Her bare neck, neutral makeup and slicked back hair are just right for this sequined gown. The bodice detail is too much. I think it would have worked perfectly without the waist and bodice design.
Kate Bosworth

I love the elegant velvet fabric, it's perfect for the winter season. Though I wish this dress were turned around. The front would have been amazing with a high neckline and let the back be dramatic. Maybe she put it on backwards???
Kirsten Dunst

If it were a different color, with a fitted bodice it would work. The skirt is very elegant, but the baggy top and faded pink tone is all wrong.
Leslie Mann

I love the drama of this gown and how the angle of the sleeves match the shape of the bodice cutouts. However, the color is all wrong and so is the lipstick. Maybe a navy blue color gown instead, with shimmer metallic shoe (see Jennifer Lopez's shoes above) and a nude gloss would have worked better??? The navy would have certainly been more flattering with her hair color.
Giuliana Rancic

The BoiseBombshell Worst Dressed:

If this were a pant suit, I imagine an alien army might purchase it for their uniform.
Julianne Moore

Brittney Spears called, she is suing Kate for stealing this from her closet.
Kate Hudson

If the 1920s made a dress with the Victorian era, it would look like this:
Cate Blanchett

Do I really need to explain this one?

Metallic nightgown and stripper shoes. No and no.
Melissa McCarthy

This dress is all wrong for her teeny tiny body. The placement of the floral embroidery and belt chop her petite frame. The top is not fitted to her body. The bow neckline and bow belt detail are just too much. The placement of the slit is all wrong, maybe it should have been placed in the back???
Eva Longoria

This reminds me of the metallic gold foil on those candy coins that taste terrible. You know what I'm talking about? It just looks cheap. The delicate chiffon cape is all wrong for this heavy gown. The shoes and slit are all wrong. Apparently, I am not a fan of the front slits.
Regina King

After seeing Jurassic World, I was eager to see Bryce Dallas Howard on the red carpet. The entire movie, I was in awe of her beauty. Her rich red hair, incredible bone structure, she could wear just about anything and look amazing. Except what she ended up wearing, sigh...
Bryce Dallas Howard

Komono meets gaudy tapestry meets horrific bowl haircut. Epic fail. You can tell in her expression, she is already aware of this.
Tamron Hall

I was pleasantly surprised by this year's Golden Globe red carpet. There were so many incredible looks this evening. I cannot wait to review the next red carpet this award season.

Next up? The SAG Awards on January 30th.
