Every year since owning our home, we have cut down our own Christmas tree. Well there was an exception one year when we were rushing to get a tree the week before Christmas, but for the most part it's been a tradition of ours to cut down our own tree. We listen to Christmas music the whole drive out to the forest and of course bring hot cocoa!
Over the years my husband has adjusted to my need to dress for the occasion, every occasion, including Christmas tree hunting. I love him for adapting to this need and for also secretly packing extra sweaters and gloves because he knows I'll get cold with my poor choice of winter attire ;-)
Remember last year's tree hunting attire?
This year I was feeling the hot pink. From my lipstick all the way down to my boots.

I've had these boots for at least a decade. Seriously, if you knew me in high school you likely saw me stomp around in this fuzzy boots. I just can't bring myself to part with them. Needless to say, since I've had them *FOREVER* I have absolutely no idea where they are from.
We go tree hunting a little ways outside of Idaho City. There is always snow, always. Last year we learned this the hard way, so this year we came prepared in full snow gear, even snow shoes!!! So thankful my husband thought of this! While I'm busy coordinating my colors, he is planning in much more practical ways.

I was in love with the scenery. I have never seen the sky quite so blue.
We ended up with a beast of a tree. I think it's 10-12 feet tall. It seemed like a good idea when we were cutting it down, but after about a hour dragging that thing back to the car in multiple feet of snow we may or may have started not feeling differently :-)
By the time we finished our adventure, the sun was already starting to go down.
For the past few years, we decorate our tree with 3 different kinds of lights (yes, my idea). Since we always get a large tree, we have to bust out the ladder for this part.
So worth it!!! Now I just need to wrap some presents to keep the tree company.
