DIY Tissue paper flower balls

In continuation of the breakdown of my sister-in-laws baby shower, I wanted to share these fun decorations...behold tissue paper flower balls. Who knew this could be such a fun decoration? They were both easy and inexpensive to make. Plus, they're great post-shower to use as decoration for the baby room.

We hung them in the window behind the gift table, so it would be a good back drop for pictures taken during present opening. Sorry it's hard to seem them in this picture with the glare.

Step 1: Select the tissue paper (color and # of sheets). The fluffy you want your flower, the more sheets you need to use. Depending on the size I used 4-10 layers of tissue.

Step 2: Create an accordion fold aka fan fold by folding the layered tissue back and forth.

Step 3: Gather the folded tissue in the center and cut 2 slits in the middle horizontally, but be careful NOT to cut all the way through the middle!!! (If you make this mistake, keep the tissue and just make two smaller flower balls).

Step 4: Tie a twist tie around the slits you just made.

Step 5: Round out both ends of your folded tissue

Step 6: Separate the tissue and fluff
The larger flowers had flat sides, so we hung them closer to the top, putting the more full flowers at the bottom of the bunch.

***Tip: doing only 1 folded tissue set makes the ball a flat side, if you're looking to create a fully rounded ball, crisscross 2 sets of folded tissue at an angle (see below). I found the smaller the ball you make, the more fluffy it turns out.

Who knew making baby shower decorations could be so much fun!?!

Ps- Yes, I will eventually show the actual shower pictures of food and other decor. I still have a few more DIY projects from the shower to post first though. Patience bombshells...
