DIY: Baby Shower Invites

Upon hearing my sister-in-law was pregnant practically one of the first things out of my mouth after "Congratulations!" was "Can I plan your baby shower?" It didn't take much convincing :-)

She gave me freedom to plan the shower anyway I saw fit. There were very few requests (a cake and a theme). She didn't want to know any of the details, which made it fun and sometimes challenging to plan in secret.

Knowing the baby room palette was pink and grey, I tried to incorporate those colors. I decided to go with a fairytale/nursery rhyme theme. It all started with the hand-made invitations.

How to Make Baby Shower Invites:
1). Find an outline of the shape you want via Google image search or using shapes from Microsoft Word. Make a template from cardstock of this shape, so you can use it to trace.
2). Print the invitations on cardstock (4 per sheet)
3).  Trace the shape outline around the invites and cut them out
4). Cut background paper into 5x7 sheets
5). Use glue dots to secure the invite. Note: I started with glue, but this caused the invitation to curl. My friend suggested glue dots. Same friend who spent hours and my kitchen table drinking wine focusing really really hard and helping me cut out these beauties ;-)
6). Hole punch the top & tie bow
7). Curl the end of the bow using a pencil

I found a cute quote I incorporated in the invitations that went with the fairytale theme:

Sorry  for the blank spaces on the invite, I had to edit out the address and phone number for the sake of privacy.

I had guests bring a book instead of a card. I came up with a cute rhyme and inserted it into each invitation to make guests aware to bring a book and also to let them know the shower was kids-free.

Most of the shower was DIY, so I decided to break the shower up into multiple posts based on the different projects.

Although I took the lead on initiating the planning for the shower, it would not have been possible without the help of friends, family and of course my husband.

Stay tuned for more DIY Baby Shower projects!!!
