What kind of bystander are you?

Last night around 10pm, there was a horrific car accident just outside out backyard. Two cars colliding with one another going full speed (45-50mph). The crash caused one of the vehicles to catch fire. There were 3 people involved in the accident. The young lady who was hit, managed to make it out of her vehicle with minor injuries. The other vehicle that was on fire had two passengers. One of which escaped the vehicle, but the driver remained trapped in the card with the engine on fire. My husband ran outside and tended to the gentleman who escaped the flame engulfed vehicle, while other bystanders managed to get the driver out of the burning vehicle (long before the fire department arrived).

All those involved managed to survive with non-life threatening injuries, but the true horror of the scene came when bystanders started laughing, joking around and taking pictures of the accident to post to Facebook. I've never been more disgusted with humanity in all my life. This accident will change these victims lives forever, it is not a source of entertainment, it's a tragedy. People need to have some respect. Although you may not know those who are in the accident, they are still somebody's someone. Social media has created such a different world. It can be used for good, or evil.

While I was disappointed by some bystanders, others were heroic. Risking their lives to help a stranger escape a flame burning vehicle. Other bystanders helped contact authorities and others assisted by bringing blankets and water to the victims. What kind of bystander are you?

"I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love" - Ephesians 4:1-3
